Drive

So this movie is kinda old (2011), but just a few months ago I realised of its existence. As I watched the trailer, my expectations were really high for violence and cool car tricks +Ryan Gosling.
Baby
After downloading it (don't question my methods), I, all excited, started watching it. The beginning was as deceiving as the trailer, with a cool, but not Fast and Furious kind, persecution. Then, Ryan Gosling drives through L.A. with a kick-ass song and I was pissing myself by this time. Then, the movie actually starts. It's slow and quiet. This is when you realise Ryan must have a speaking problem, as he barely speaks (The Notebook anyone?). Ryan's character, who has no name, is in love with Carey Mulligan's...? It's hard to tell as they say NOTHING. Well, he must be in love 'cause the whole plot is centered around "Driver" trying to Help Irene's (Carey) fresh-outta-jail husband get rid to some guys he owes to. They rob a pawn shop but shit goes wrong thanks to bitchy Christina Hendrick's character.
Those jugs tho
Bitch gets Irene's husband and herself killed and Ryan is so awesome he kills the killers. In this scenes you 1) realise it's supposed to be painfully slow then awesomely fast  and 2) it's kind of a gory film.
Can't be the only one who sees the sex in this
It then becomes from a Fast And Furious fail to indie awesomeness. Driver and Irene all but kiss once but he's nuts about her and gets into all this shit for her. Even after the husband's well and gone, Driver hunts down everyone involved and THEY ALL DIE. That's how cool he is. Still, he is unable to stay with Irene 'cause he's now a mob target and wouldn't put her in danger. He drives away to a cool soundtrack once again.

My opinion: Damn, it's good. I think that, although I criticized at first, Ryan's and Carey's silence is what makes the characters both so good. They never say "I love you" or even an "I like you" you just can tell. That's how good their acting is. The slowness is required for the fast scenes to impact you appropriately, and the blood is the cherry on top of a perfect movie, just the right amount of it, at the right time. What can I say about the soundtrack? Not just appropriate, but the best that movie could've had. Congrats to everyone involved in it. *Applause*

Rating: 5/5 All deserved
Watch again? Fuck the fuck yes. Just beautiful.
And they didn't get an Oscar? Really? Were judges all straight men then?

Perras (or Bitches )

Perras is a Mexican drama film by Guillermo Ríos. The awesome film stars Claudia Zepeda, Karen de la Hoya, Scarlet Dergal and Steph Bumelcrownd young actresses not very known.
I'll recommend it to you, because I trust you're not a racist asshole who doesn't watch foreign movies. The movies is about 10 girls who are waiting in a classroom to be interrogated by a terrible thing that was done. While they're in there, the stories of some of them are told, and slowly tells you what the crime was. One of them, María del Mar Solís "La Matada" (the one who practically kills herself at school) is pregnant with the baby of the father of Sofía Ibar "La Manchada" (the mean girl), but tells no one. Still, Diana Fragoso "La Ciega" knows it and tells it to Sofía. Ana Ceci Flores "La Mustia" suggests to María del Mar to practice an abortion by herself. She ends up dying from loss of blood. This is the horrible event. Ana Ceci doesn't confess that she told María del Mar and the director ends up dismissing the girls saying it was María del Mar's entire fault.
Pictured: María del Mar on Diana's shoulder
My opinion: It's amazing. It keeps you interested the whole movie to know what the fuck did those girls do. Each of the stories is pictured differently and you get attached to the characters. The title might mislead to child porn, but it's just some girls (not bitches. Except maybe Sofía) telling you their story and how they might be affected by being expelled. How the most pure of them ends knocked up and then dead. Mexican movies might be turning very repetitive, you know, sex, drama, and swearing, but is reality any different? Check it out, I bet there's a English subtitled version somewhere.
*Note. Be careful while googling, the term might be misinterpreted as porn.
Rating: 5/5
Watch again? Indeed.
Recommended? To people who enjoy GOOD foreign movies.

Melancholia.

A newer movie starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourgh and Kiefer Sutherland has arrived. It was directed by Lars von Trier.

Plot goes like this (SPOILER ALAERT):
It starts with really annoying shots in slow motion (REALLY SLOW motion) showing in code what the movie is about with background dramatic classical music. Then it shows the wedding of Justine and Michael in an enormous mansion belonging to her sister Claire and her husband John. The wedding looks (and it is mentioned) very expensive and fun. But Justine is distant and ends up having sex with a stranger and losing her job and husband. That's chapter 1: Justine. Chapter 2: Claire shows Justine in a severely deep depression living with her sister's family. John (Claire's husband) is an astrologist and is expecting a fly-by of a planet, Melancholia, by Earth. Claire is nervous, expecting Melancholia to crash on Earth but John assures her that will not happen. The fly-by then occurs and Claire relaxes. But the next day she realizes Melancholia is approaching again, and so does John. He commits suicide and Claire hides it from Leo (her son), and Justine. Justine also realizes the apocalypse is happening and she doesn't care. Leo, though, becomes nervous at her  mother's bewilderment and Justine calms him building a "magic cave" made of sticks in a teepee shape. At the end Justine, Claire and Leo sit inside the teepee and wait for Melancholia to crash the Earth.

My Opinion:
First of all, I'll applaud, in agreement with the Cannes' Festival, Kirsten Dunst's terrific performance (and her nudes!)

Have you been working out? Anyway, Kirsten is able to give you the image of the severely depressed Justine, who can't even get up or take a bath on her own. She does the right metamorphosis from the beginning of the movie (after the annoying slow-mo) where Justine is happy and beautiful with Michael to the end of her wedding, with her dirty dress and without husband or job, depressed and bitter. *Applause*
I'll applaud Lars von Trier, who managed to make an apocalypse movie artistic and Cannes-worthy. The music was appropriately dramatic without getting to the point of Requiem For A Dream.
I'll have to say, though, it can be a little bit boring. One has to have a cinematography degree or to be in the mood for such artistic movies to get through it all. You understand the high level of artistic the movie has, but it gets to the point of boring. Especially that slow-mo. THAT SLOW-MO. I had gotten your point von Trier, those TEN minutes of extremely slow images weren't that much necessary.

High Five dude!
4.5/5 <- just because of that slow-motion.
Recommended? Yes, when feeling patient enough (or you're an artist at mind)
Watch again? To show off to that hipster girl you're hitting on.

To correct/complement last article.

Yes, a lot of time has passed. Yeah, I kinda abandoned this blog. But that doesn't mean I can't retake it.
To retake, I'm going to talk first about Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I made a tiny mistake about the director. I said he was the same man who drew the comic books (Scott Pilgrim), which he is not. The writer of the series is Brian Lee O'Malley while the director of the movie is Edgar Wright.
Also, as I promised, I read the comic books. There's six of them and they're called (they all start with Scott Pilgrim):
  • Precious Little Life
  • vs. The World
  • & The Infinite Sadness
  • Gets It Together
  • vs. The Universe
  • Finest Hour
And so my opinion of the movie changed. It happens, more often than not, that a book or series is turned into a movie and it doesn't manage to portray successfully the essence of the book. On the movie, the characters do have a sarcastic and ironic way to be, but on the comic books it's excessive. Sometimes, I had a hard time understanding what characters meant or felt. But that made the story what it is and the movie doesn't give that atmosphere of, for lack of a better term, hipsterness. I now can't watch the movie without thinking of improvements that could be made to make it more congruent with the comic books.

Still, not to disappoint it's a good movie, with nice imagination, good casting and excellent effects. But if I had to choose between the comic books and the movie, I would choose the comic books, as the story is better told and I have to say it. Scott Pilgrim isn't as awkward as Michael Cera. I love Michael Cera, he's cute and all, but he wasn't able to characterize Pilgrim like he should've.
A little tear running down my cheek I take one point off this movie because of reasons stated above.
4/5
Watch again? Certainly.
Recommended? When looking for a hipster movie when you already saw Juno.

So yesterday I watched Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Wow. So let's start. I think this one is going to my favorites list. It was awesome!

Starting with the story. It was a film based on the graphic novel series "Scott Pilgrim".
I didn't know of the existence of this comics 'til I saw this movie. The story is original, and unusual. I don't think any director would've been able to pull this one out. Glad it was the same guy who wrote the comics. Of course, what would've been of the movie without special effects? They were amazing. I wouldn't classify them as 'comic book' style, but more of a video game style. They were epicly epic.

Now, the actors. Oh god, who else could portray Scott as well as Michael Cera?
And Mary Elizabeth Winstead does it good as well.
My congratulations though, (and maybe this one should go to Bryan Lee O'Malley, writer of the series), for the Wallace character.
To really give a full review I would have to read the comics (which I plan to do shortly), but I can say I absolutely adored Wallace and applaud Kieran Culkin, because I think he was the best of all (after Michael and Mary Elizabeth, of course).

The music. I should say that  maybe any other director would have considered a normal soundtrack for the movie. Bryan, however, knows there is no Scott Pilgrim without good music. 'Cause, actually, this is what all this is about. The Sex Bob-Ombs have really cool music, while The Clash at Demonhead are amazing too. So recommend getting the soundtrack, here are some links:

On iTunes
On Amazon (an LOL on this one, folks)
I'd rather have it free, thanks.

So.... Recommend? YES. See it again? LOTS OF TIMES.

Watch again?  Totally. Lots of times, worth my time.

As I have announced on my mini blog I have created this new blog with my opinions and ratings on movies.

So, as an introduction, I may say that I am a movie fan. I cannot be long without watching a movie. I have a variety of tastes, considering that three of my favorite movies are Mean Girls,
(500) Days Of Summer
and Requiem For A Dream.

With my first post, besides the introduction, I would like to give my review on a movie I recently downloaded. Yes, I download movies from torrents, and I do not feel guilty. I actually go very little to the movies, I feel it is a waste of money for something I could watch on my computer for free. I only go with movies I think deserve the money (or when I'm really bored or craving for company).

Back to the subject. I just downloaded an ABC movie, which means a family movie. "Revenge Of The Bridesmaids"
was, in my opinion, family-good. If you're looking for good films, this is not one. The plot goes a little like this:

Two best friends, Abigail Scanlon and Parker Wald, go  back to their hometown to visit. In their little trip, they run on an old friend, Rachel, who has lost the love of her life to an ex-friend, Caitlin. Abigail and Parker then decide to crash the wedding becoming Caitlin's bridesmaids. They do a hell lotta stupid things to do it, but end up arrested. Parker, who was flirting and dating Henry, a cop, convinces him to release them. They then proceed to kidnap the bride and take her to the hospital to have a pregnancy test, as Caitlin was keeping Tony by her side with a fake baby. She refuses, and the cops arrive. But it all is a ruse and Parker, Abigail and Rachel filmed her saying that she was not pregnant and was only looking for Tony's money. The wedding crashes, but Tony and Rachel marry as Parker and Tony date.

My opinion: For the kids or for a good, clean laugh. It's filled with innocent humour and brings up a surprise: long retired from the cameras Raven-Symoné! We hadn't seen her since that's so Raven and a couple of kids' films. The story is good, but average. And, I will give them 3/5 instead of two because I love Joanna García (Better With You star) and her acting (and gorgeous hair).

RATING: 3/5
TAGS: Family, kids, innocent humour.
WATCH IT AGAIN: only if feeling childish
